THE FIRST SITTING AND HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Emma first contacted me by e-mail on Sunday December 11th 2011 to request a guest seat within the Lodge. In response to this, my spirit guide FC indicated for me to speak with her on the 'phone, which I did later that same day. Emma and I subsequently arranged to the meet next day, on Monday December 12th.

During our first informal meeting Emma informed me that her mother (although now retired from sitting) was/is a Physical medium with many years experience, of mainly sitting within a home circle environment. Emma has until now been content to sit in Physical seances where she has enjoyed witnessing the Physical phenomena being demonstrated through the development of other Physical mediums. However, she now felt an interest in developing herself, is this were to become possible. As a result of this curiosityEmma and I agreed to commit to sitting together for six weeks in order to experiment. We were determined to hold no expectations, as all development is an experiment. We felt that after this she would perhaps have a better idea of the potential reality of her chosen path.

In support of our agreement to sit together I arranged for Pat, who is a trusted regular supporting sitter in the Lodge, to sit with myself and Emma on the following Friday evening, December 16th.

December 16th

As been planned, Pat and I first sat in support of Emma on December 16th 2011. The room had been set with red lighting, and soft music played as Emma sat within the open cabinet. She was chatty at first...asking whether she should meditate...I asked her to simply be quiet and just relax. She asked for a blanket, as her feet were cold. My guide suggested that she lay a blanket on the floor beneath her bare feet. He did not want her feet to be covered or wrapped...so we complied with his guidance. Emma chatted a bit more, and each time I asked her to just sit quietly. She indicated that someone was standing to her side...I asked her again to sit quietly and relax. During the second piece of music Emma's head fell forward and the seance proceeded according to spirit control.

Before long it was made apparent that Emma's controlling spirit guides did not want the blanket beneath her feet as, unknown to her, during the seance they kicked it aside.

Twice spirit attempted to communicate through voice. Neither attempt was successful, although sounds were heard that were not caused consciously by Emma, and neither time were the sounds heard anything like Emma's own voice.

After an hour, as had been agreed, the seance came to a close.

NOTE: Emma was next invited to sit in seance as a supporting sitter in the Lodge on December 20th, with Lee of the Spirit Haven circle. This was in effect the Lodge Christmas Party seance.

I was aware that energy was being drawn from Emma throughout this seance. This was indicative of her being of ectoplasmic energy source as was the designated medium, Lee. Similar energy was also being drawn from Richard during this seance. Richard is another developing Physical medium whose spirit team manipulate energy similarly. Lee's spirit team coped extremely well with the management of, and unfamiliar increase in, the combined energy offered within this Christmas gathering.

NOTE: Due to the spontaneous and unexpected 'communication' from Emma's spirit team in the given circumstances, I decided that it would be best for her to sit for her own development, rather than becoming integrated to sit in support of others.

Emma and I therefore agreed to next sit together on Friday January 6th. However...

December 21st.

Today, circle guide FC suggested that Emma and I arrange to next sit a week earlier than we'd planned in January. The suggestion being for the sitting to be brought forward to December 30th. I put the suggestion first to Emma. With a strong display of dedication she replied that she'd be staying with her family in Reading over the Christmas period, but would drive back in order to sit in the Lodge. Reading being just over 91 miles from Clevedon, this would necessitate a round trip nearing 200 miles...in order to sit in a seance for just over an hour. I was impressed by her dedication. I am sure that spirit are impressed also. It is, I believe, through displays of such love and dedication that Physical mediumship becomes enabled.

Within the Lodge, again according to FC's guidance, whenever possible, we aim to provide each medium with at least two supporting sitters. This means that any phenomena being displayed is witnessed by two people and cannot be regarded as purely imagined, as might be the case when something is seen, heard or felt by only one person. Therefore, as a result of Emma's agreement to sit I then turned towards inviting a second witness, to pair with myself for the proposed seance on December 30th.

Rachael is a comparatively recent sitter in the Lodge. She has sat in several seances now, but remains relatively inexperienced. Due to her growing fascination though, she intends to write a book! With her proposed book in mind, Rachael had voiced an interest in Emma's potential and had said that she would like to be involved in Emma's early developmental sittings, to see how, or if, things evolve. This being the case, I offered Rachael the opportunity to sit with Emma and myself on December 30th. Pat, who had sat with Emma on December 16th also agreed to join us.

2nd Sitting. December 30th

Emma's second sitting was supported and witnessed by Chris, Pat and Rachael.

To be honest we held no expectations whatsoever and were open to receive any form of communication that became offered by Emma's spirit team.

We had decided to sit in red lighting conditions, with Emma seated unrestrained within the open cabinet. Sitters were each seated with a clear view of the cabinet area. A new music system was also being tried, which was frankly found to be weakly effective. As usual the digital audio recorder was placed beside the cabinet in order to record the seance.

Witnesses saw that Emma was quite relaxed throughout the seance. They also noted that her trance 'depth' varied. Transfiguration phenomena was witnessed by Chris and Rachael, who both saw a man's face being presented. The spirit team appeared to be working internally with ectoplasm...the sounds heard were indicative of this. Towards the end of the seance the spirit team asked for the light to be dimmed.

3rd Sitting. January 6th

The medium, Emma, was seated unrestrained within the open cabinet in red lighting conditions throughout the seance.

This seance clearly demonstrates the desire of this spirit team to work with this medium for the development of Physical mediumship. It is just one week since her second sitting, yet the team now demonstrates fluent communication. I offer a full seance audio file to best illustrate how they presented themselves:

The following notes may be of guidance to others working with the development of Physical mediumship. Please be aware that these are my personal notes, and refer only to my working specifically with Emma. I am aware that others may or may not agree or approve nor may they wish to work in a similar way. Nevertheless these notes perhaps offer some insight that may help someone somewhere as they tread their chosen path.

1: This medium told us that she was conscious but 'in the background' throughout this seance.
She said that she has experienced deeper spiritual control and less conscious awareness in the past, when she has been sitting in seance conditions in support of other mediums. In those situations her spirit team did not make their presence known to others. When she came to the lodge she did not consider herself to have Physical mediumship potential, despite the fact that her mother was a Physical medium. She simply came along to the Lodge with an open mind.

After note: After this seance when Emma had listened to the seance recording played back she realised that she had in fact been unconscious or suffering from amnesia for quite a lot of the time : )

2: The music played in this seance was not the most suitable for her and her spirit team. Music appears to be of importance in many seances, though not in others. Within this seance the spirit team indicated a wish for more lively music to be played. However, this evening the music being played attracted the presence of some deceased family relatives, who communicated joyfully with Delia.

3: The red lighting conditions in this seance were set according the suggestion of FC, an overseeing guide of the Lodge. The red lighting enabled me, the circle leader, to see the medium. I have only recently met Emma and hardly know her. Emma herself has only sat in the cabinet a few times. Stability and trust are things which need to develop in order for stable physical phenomena to become demonstrated.

4: Within the cabinet the medium was seen to become physically relaxed and I was aware that some restraint may more securely support her in the chair. Soft cotton cord wrist ties will therefore be tried at the next sitting.

5: Within this seance the spirit team demonstrated that they were developing, and producing, ectoplasm. The sound of ectoplasmic withdrawal was clearly heard and her facial skin was made damp. Twice the spirit team caused Emma's head to turn to enable me to clearly see the ectoplasmic mask. With this in mind I would normally close the cabinet curtains to sit in blackout conditions, as these are more favourable when ectoplasm is being used. However, the Lodge circle's overseeing guide FC strongly indicates that it would be best to leave the red lighting conditions set to allow a further period of adjustment to take place. It is, he says, best to take things slowly. The spirit team will ensure the safety of the medium within the set conditions. The medium has only sat a couple of times with the intent to develop. It is preferable to allow the medium and sitters the opportunity to develop such skills as are best learned through gradual experience. Therefore we will again sit in red lighting conditions next week. After this...we will review the situation.

6: The spirit team indicated that their work would benefit from the energy offered by a higher number of sitters. The Bristol Spirit Lodge circle has an established group of supporting sitters who between them currently support three other developing mediums who are working in the Lodge. At this stage I do not know which of them would be willing or able to dedicate to sit with another new medium were this consideration to become open.

7: Emma has not been integrated into the Lodge circle. Just a few weeks ago she came along to meet me as she wished to discover whether she had the potential to develop as a Physical medium. The Lodge, possibly because it has been built and only used for the development and demonstration of Physical mediumship holds energies that support and perhaps encourages such development. Due to her interest, Emma and I agreed to sit together for six weeks, without expectation of any particular outcome, in order to perhaps discover her potential. We have sat together for three of the agreed six sittings. I am already confident that Emma has the potential to become a strong Physical medium of notable ability.

8: Moving forward. As I, and a team of supporting sitters, are already dedicated to the support of several developing Physical mediums within the Lodge, and sit three evenings each week for this purpose, it is unlikely that Emma can be appropriately supported to develop in the longer term within the Lodge setting. We trust that spirit will shine a light to show her the way. Meanwhile we look forward to sitting together again next week.

4th Sitting. January 13th

Witnesses: Chris. Pat. Rachael.

Emma was seated in the open cabinet and was restrained with two strong cotton cord ties to her wrists. These were threaded through holes drilled in the wooden chair arms so as to prevent sliding. The cords were firmly tied using simple bows as this was a token early experiment with no outcome whatsoever expected.

The red light was on the floor by Chris’s feet and the hood directed the light across the outside front of the cabinet. This arrangement meant that the inside of the cabinet was darker than last week, when the light had been set to illuminate the internal area. The mediums hands and feet were clearly seen this evening, the rest of her was unseen. The red light was set at it’s usual ‘mid way’ setting at first this evening, but FC offered guidance for it to be further dimmed a short-way through the séance, and again further dimmed later. The mediums hands and feet remained in clear view of both Rachael and Chris throughout…these being seated closest to the cabinet.

At each séance to date this spirit team begin the séance by creating a couple of loud yells. These may startle inexperienced sitters, but are nowt to worry about. Communication will stabilise as the team and medium become further developed. Practise makes perfect.

Friday 13^th January 2012 Report: Holly Spirit Circle

This was Emma’s fourth sitting for development of Physical mediumship. I have been present for three of these, having missed the first one.

Last night Emma was tied into the chair with long cotton shoe lace cords around her wrists. Christine threaded the cord through the drilled holes in the chair arm and secured her wrists tightly to the arms by knotting the cord over the sleeves of her jersey. I watched her do this with interest and made a mental note to ask her the reason for it after the séance.

Emma was seated in an open cabinet and was relaxed and chatty. Before she lost some consciousness she told us she could feel her Guide beside her and that it made her feel so happy when he was there. I saw a small, bright white light spark a centimetre from the top of her head. It was brief but definitely subjective.

A dim red light was set a metre or so from the mediums feet and lit her body from the waist down. Her face was in darkness as requested by her Guide the previous week.

Soft music was played on a CD and for the duration of a few songs we were all sitting peacefully. A short screech from Emma (or at least from Emma’s mouth) woke us all up and then the now familiar noises issued from the mediums throat. I have witnessed another medium, Lee, during his development, and can say that the noises were very similar. It starts with a noise like a mouth wash gargle but deep at the back of the throat. This continues to a wheezy, heavier rumble and it sounds as if much saliva is being brought into the mouth and then bubbled from the lips.

It’s a slightly alarming sound to witness. They are not noises that would normally emanate from a sane, self respecting woman, and it’s difficult to remember that the noises are coming from the same Emma that I was chatting to at Christine’s table 15 minutes before.

A deeper tone to the vocal range had begun a few weeks ago but last night it was being finely tuned. Emma’s Guide could be heard practicing using the voice by vocalising each breath with a deep ‘huh, huh, huh..’ He spoke on several occasions. At first the voice was masculine but raspy and then he seemed quite pleased that he had managed to create a deep, resonant voice with more clarity and which was more ‘human’ in tone.

He told us he had lived in

Egypt

when he was on the earth plane ‘a long time ago’ and that he was head of the tribe. Christine asked what his name was but he was reluctant to tell us as Emma had wanted to discover this for herself. Emma had told us prior to entering the Lodge last night that she felt she was being told the name by her Guide but wanted independent confirmation. When the Guide later spoke to us he seemed a little put out by this and asked just how many times did he have to keep telling her before she believed him!

Emma’s Guide has been with her all her life. Last week he told us: ‘I am her and she is me.’ A relationship that I feel may span more than this earthly life. This week Emma told us that when she is in trance she feels that she is ‘standing’ behind herself and that her Guide is not only working in her body but is also around her and taking care of her spirit as she waits. She talks about him with great affection and refers to him as her ‘Forever Friend.’

Last night her Guide and spirit team seemed more in control of events. The seance was more structured than previous nights; the spirits less excitable and chaotic and the Guide less concerned with wanting more sitters and blackout conditions. He seemed to be content with using what darkness there was and concentrated on creating a masculine voice. Christine had been reluctant to turn off the red light as she wanted the development to proceed slowly and stability. She was concerned that Emma needed longer to adjust to her new state of consciousness and in red light it would be easier to spot any problems with this. The lighting was therefore lowered but was not extinguished. The team, however, tonight proved themselves to be trustworthy of proceeding at a steadier pace and blackout conditions will soon be put into effect.

Different people took turns in trying out the voice box. It’s quite an experience to listen to them practicing speech and noises. At times the voices varied between those of Daffy and Donald Duck. Thankfully the spirits did not take offence at our amusement in this.

David, a family member of the medium, popped in, as he had last week, and was still laughing and joking. His voice was higher in tone and his words came in a quick tumble along with infectious giggling. He had us all laughing with him and it occurred to me just how many times I have witnessed the spirit teams of the mediums use humour to diffuse tension and create a positive energy within a circle. David was annoyed with the high pitch of his voice and hoped none of his friends could hear him. He told us that only the Guides have the ability to deepen the sound, and despite our encouragement that he would learn from them in due course, he did not seem very convinced.

It is this, very ‘normal’ dialogue between our two worlds that always fills me with wonder. It’s not just the spectacular and unusual that feeds my curiosity but the fact that after we die, our personalities stay the same. The spirit people still have to learn things and struggle and feel embarrassed. They also feel excited and happy when things go right. Nothing much changes except that we are told it is a lovely place and a much better life than we have here.

But something spectacular did happen last night. The shoe laces that I mentioned previously were somehow loosened from Emma’s wrists and her hands were lifted and plonked back on the chair arms noisily to show us. The red light had been shining on Emma’s right hand and I had been watching it throughout the séance and I know that her hand did not move prior this. Not even a finger twitched. I always find something to focus on when the rest of the room is dark. It helps to stop my mind drifting in the energy of the room. As a witness I need to stay alert and I am confident that Emma did not move to loosen the ties. A spirit told us that the ties were still knotted. At the end of the séance Emma’s hands were free of the cords that were still tied in a knot and threaded through the holes in the chair arms! It was the first time any of us had witnessed this in lit conditions and we were all amazed and delighted to have been able to confirm that Emma had no part in removing the cords herself.

I didn’t need to ask Chris why she had tied the cords after all…It was first rate evidence of spirit existence and what they can achieve.

After being congratulated on what they had achieved one spirit remarked:

‘We can do wonders without light.’

Emma, as on previous nights, was unhappy with the amount of sticky substance and mucus that was on her face and clothing by the end of the sitting. The first stages of voice development is not at all glamorous and can be quite uncomfortable for the medium.
It takes courage, and trust in the Guides becomes increasingly necessary for all concerned.

Trust, drive, support and dedication seem to be the crucial factors for successful development…and ‘Love’ of course, which I’ve discovered is an energy source more powerful than I'd ever imagined.

5th Sitting. January 20th

The medium was seated, restrained by two cotton cord ties to her wrists, in the closed cabinet in near-blackout conditions (very faint red light).

The séance began with several loud shouts from the spirit team as energy became activated.

Just a couple of songs later several different voices spoke quite clearly although there is a great deal of practise going on.

Although sitters don’t yet know the spirit team well the general atmosphere in this séance was far more stable than previously. We feel now that the team is working together with us, rather than behaving like excited children left to run riot in a toy shop. As a result of this stability steady progress is clearly being made.

The medium too tells us that since she has started to sit regularly for development there is less spiritual-based chaos around her at home and that she is no longer afraid to go to bed for fear of being removed from her body.

We were delighted when this week for the first time the medium’s spirit team recognised the final piece of music and took control of the closing of séance procedure by withdrawing in total. This is a very important step forward.

Note: After the séance both arms of the medium were free of the wrist ties, which themselves remained tied.

I have been guided towards someone that may be in a position to offer appropriate support…however this has not yet been confirmed as the way forward. It is important that this medium is appropriately supported to continue her path towards the development and demonstration of her valuable spiritual gift. Her potential is beyond measure.

1: It has been noticed that this spirit team appears to best communicate whilst the music is playing. Seldom do they communicate during the silence between the music.

2: The spirit team appears to be able to work at this stage of development equally well within very dim red lighting conditions as they do when the room is set with blackout. The team appears to work best when the cabinet is closed in either condition.

3: The voice appears to be manipulated and developed internally at present. Therefore although I feel that ectoplasmic energy is being used, there is no risk to consider. I will periodically check with the spirit team that this is in fact the case.

4: This week the spirit team caused the mediums own hands to become moved in order for them to effect clapping. The medium objected to them doing this and did her best to prevent it. I have some concern that at present she holds strong opinions of how her team should work with her and what is and is not acceptable from her perspective. This restricts the manner in which her team can effectively work through her. Despite claiming to Trust her spirit guide this medium retains control.

5: This medium has asked her spirit team to 'take her back' as she would prefer to be unconscious during the seance. I feel that the team needs to be become assured of her trust and willingness to release her boundaries of control before they can do this. Whilst she is herself trying to prevent them from clapping her hands together for instance she is likely to remain conscious.

6: As with last week...this spirit team withdrew promptly at close of seance. They also presented with stablity throughout the seance itself. Communication is also clearer, although needs to be further improved before fluency and clarity is attained.

February 19th 2012

As I am unable to support Emma's longer-term development as a Physical Medium, I had been guided to arrange for Emma to meet with Peter Steedman.

Tonight Peter arrived at my home for the first time, and after friendly social introductions had been made he, along with Emma and myself went into the Lodge for an experimental seance.

I opened the evening with the customary prayer and the room was set with dimmed red lighting. Emma was seated in the open cabinet with secured cotton cord wrist restraits. Peter sat diagonally opposite Emma. I sat as usual in the chair to one side of the cabinet. As the evening progressed blackout conditions became applied.

Communication was fluent and for the most part was of 'mid trance level'. The medium was notably a little 'far forward' as occurs at this level of trance....but nevertheless the communication was clearly defined as being sourced within different personalities with the different sexes and ages of communicators also being clearly presented.

After the seance we returned to the house for tea, biscuits and cake. The evening closed with Peter offering his assurance of support towards Emma.
